New York City-Weekend Itinerary for First Time Visitors

Back in March my mom and I were on the East coast visiting family. For years we had been taking about hopping on a train and heading to New York for a girls weekend, but just never got around to it for one reason or another. This year we were finally do it! Naturally New York is HUGE, and a weekend trip doesn’t even scratch the surface as far as everything that there is to do in the city that is home to over 8.5 million people. One trip is just not enough to even begin to “see” it all and it can be pretty overwhelming when you only have a short time to fit everything on your must-see list in. These are all my must-do’s when vistiting whether its for a weekend, or a 2 week long trip.

Sightseeing:

Top of the Rock

One of my favorites when in NYC was Rockefeller Center. It is probably the best place to photograph the city and the Empire State building can be seen as well as Central Park.

Tips:

– It is best to make a reservation online before going, but you can buy tickets at the door.

-The 86th floor is the most popular and the 360 views are absolutely incredible. However, it can get pretty crowded so if you want to escape the crowds take the elevator a bit higher to the 102nd floor.

Times Square

When you think of New York city how could you not think of the iconic Times Square? Home to flashing builboards, LOTS and LOTS of people (most of them being tourists), and stores of all kinds it is a must see. Whether you want to stay long is a different question;) It can be quite crowded and touristy, but if you have never been or enjoy that sort of thing I would recommend checking it out.

Tips:

-You can easily walk and explore the different shops and stop one of the many street stands for a bite to eat.

-Most of the stores stay open till 11 or 12 some bars and restaurants even later so don’t rush.

5th Avenue

If you are a shopaholic like me you will definitely want to check out 5th avenue. This strip is home to all the higher end and designer stores such as Tommy Hilfiger, Tiffany’s, Saks, and countless others. This is deffinitly a must-do!

Broadway

Finally, to top of your day of shopping what a better way to spend your evening then watching a Broadway show. Although Hamilton has gotten some BIG publicity lately, we opted for one of the less-known and newer shows: Waitress. It was written by Sara Bareilles (you probably know who I’m talking about if you listen to pop music) and let me just say IT WAS AMAZING! The show had something for everyone and I would defiantly recommend seeing it during your stay 🙂
